Tomorrow, 14 June 2017, the Bongi Ngema-Zuma Foundation (BNZ) kickstarts its Mandela Month programme with a visit to a home for the elderly in Mamelodi Township, Pretoria.
As a Foundation that promotes diabetes awareness and healthy lifestyle, the team led by the First Lady, Madam Bongi Ngema-Zuma will start the day by joining the elderly in their daily aerobics programme and hold a discussion on diabetes awareness, prevention and management. The team consists of two retired and experienced health care workers who will volunteer their time and professional skills by screening the elderly and staff for diabetes.
Mandela Month is about giving, reaching out to the needy and making a difference in other people’s lives. It is this understanding that led the BNZ Foundation to, over and above information sharing, donate goods such as:
- Seedlings to start and sustain a vegetable garden that will help promote healthy living
- A goodie bag for each resident with winter socks, snacks and wool for knitting to keep them active.
- A breakfast pack for each person
- A portable radio and television which will contribute to tools that keep the elderly entertained and their minds engaged.
Date: Wednesday, 14 August 2016
Time: 08h30 – diabetes screening , 09h30 – 12h00 formal programme
