The Diabetes Leadership Forum Africa 2010 took place in Johannesburg, South Africa on 30 September and 1 October 2010, was one of the first initiatives that the Bongi Ngema-Zuma Foundation took part in.The patron of the Foundation, Madam Bongi Ngema-Zuma delivered the keynote address at this forum that was jointly hosted by the South African Department of Health, on behalf of the government of the Republic of South Africa, and by the World Diabetes Foundation (WDF), with the support of Novo Nordisk.

The Forum brought together more than 260 participants from 32 countries across sub-Saharan Africa and abroad, representing governments, donors, international organisations, patient organisations, NGOs, the private sector, academic institutions, healthcare professionals and the media.

The Diabetes Leadership Forum Africa 2010 was aimed at raising awareness of and facilitating appropriate responses to diabetes and other non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as cancer, cardiovascular disease and chronic respiratory diseases, and beginning to develop a shared sub-Saharan African approach in the run-up to the United Nations’ Heads of State Summit on NCDs scheduled for September 2011.
